AFINITOR Tablets and AFINITOR DISPERZ 

MOST COMMON SIDE EFFECT

The most common side effect of AFINITOR® (everolimus) Tablets or AFINITOR DISPERZ® (everolimus tablets for oral suspension) in treating patients with TSC-associated SEGA is mouth sores (also called ulcers).

Below are tips that you and your doctor may consider to manage mouth sores. If you have a young child, some of these tips might not be appropriate; ask your doctor for guidance.

  1. Banana

    Eat soft foods such as milkshakes, smoothies, pudding, yogurt, mashed potatoes, or bananas.

  2. Take good care of your mouth, and visit your dentist regularly.

  3. Floss regularly.

  4. Rinse your mouth several times a day with a mixture of table salt and water.

  5. Check with a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist before using a store-bought mouthwash.

  6. Try to brush after every meal with a soft-bristled toothbrush and mild toothpaste.

  1. Don’t consume food and drinks that can irritate your mouth (such as citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, spicy or salty foods, raw ginger, onions, and crunchy chips). 

  2. Don’t use a mouthwash that contains alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or thyme because it may irritate your mouth.

  3. Don’t drink hot liquids.

  4. Don’t eat foods that you are allergic to, and keep in mind any dietary restrictions you may have.
