AFINITOR Tablets and AFINITOR DISPERZ

AFINITOR: A NONSURGICAL TREATMENT FOR TSC-RELATED SEGA*

*For appropriate patients.

AFINITOR® (everolimus) Tablets and AFINITOR DISPERZ™ (everolimus tablets for oral suspension) are once-daily prescription medicines used to treat adults and children with a genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) who have a brain tumor called subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA), when the tumor cannot be removed completely by surgery.

UNDERSTANDING TSC

TSC is a genetic disease, which means that a gene inside the cells of a person with TSC does not function properly.

  • In people with TSC, there is a defect on one of 2 genes, either TSC1 (also called hamartin) or TSC2 (also called tuberin)

  • The defects on these genes prevent them from producing certain proteins that control mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin)

    • mTOR is a pathway that regulates the amount and size of cells
