Understanding Treatment

AFINITOR for My Progressive Lung NET

AFINITOR® (everolimus) Tablets is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with a type of cancer known as neuroendocrine tumor (NET) of the stomach and intestine (gastrointestinal), or lung that has progressed and cannot be treated with surgery.

AFINITOR is not for use in people with carcinoid tumors that actively produce hormones.

How Does AFINITOR Work?

AFINITOR works by blocking the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) protein*. In doing so, AFINITOR helps to slow down blood vessels feeding oxygen and nutrients to the tumor. AFINITOR may also affect healthy, nontumor cells.

*Although AFINITOR has been studied in patients with progressive lung NET, how AFINITOR works has been demonstrated only in laboratory studies.

By blocking the mTOR protein, AFINITOR may help slow the growth of some types of cancer cells.
